Limpopo Province is in the North of South Africa. It is named after the Limpopo River, which forms the province’s western and northern borders. The name “Limpopo” has its etymological origin in the Northern Sotho language word *diphororo tša meeste* , meaning “strong gushing waterfalls. It was first called the Northern Province, but this was changed in 2002. The Limpopo Province was part of the old Transvaal and includes many old homelands like Venda, Gazankulu and Lebowa. ” The capital is Polokwane, formerly called Pietersburg.
